Satanism and Satan...
The very words send chills up the spines of some of the lesser educated of people. These people hear the word Satanism or Satan and automatically think... "Oh my... (insert word here), animal sacrifice." Or... "I've heard they have sexual orgies." Or... "They kill Babies and sell their souls. These are, very, closed minded turns of thought. As most of us who do more then look at the surface of these words know. These are pretty inaccurate.
A Good example of what I'm talking about is the following...
Recently, I had an interesting conversation with my sister. Just a note here... I am a, long time, practitioner of many forms of Witchcraft, but I have an extensive knowledge of various other religions, and she is just a very devote Catholic. This does not usually lead to religious talk of any kind, as she is pretty non-verbal about my "choice." I think she prefers just not to acknowledge that anything but the Catholic Church exists. However, one this particular day, she decided that she would begin by informing me that she had met her first "Satanist."
I asked her if it had been a pleasant meeting, and she said "No!" She then proceeds to describe the meeting using all the misinformation that I had heard during my youth. As in... This young man was all in Black, He had looked like he had not bathed, and in general presented a bad picture. Also, she heard all about these "people", and she just KNEW Evil when she saw it. She heard that they "Curse people." That they worship the Devil etc... My brain said "Wait a second. She knows nothing." I then began to try and inform her that the Satanists that I know don't do these things, don't worship Satan (Indeed they don't view Satan as he is usually depicted, but rather as an Archetype. Or the idea that Women and Man are passionate beings. Also, that Satanism represents the Physical over the Spiritual.) I also tried to bring her to the enlightened view of the 11 Tenets of Satanism as well as the 9 Satanic "Sins." She heard none of what I said.... and that part of our talk ended with... "Well, we'll have to disagree and drop it."
WHAT???
These are the type of people who make me cringe. I am all for religious tolerance here folks, and I refuse to judge others on their beliefs. Why can they not be the same you ask. It has to do with "Fear of the Unknown."
It is human nature to be afraid of what they do not understand, and if we go too long with that "ideal." Well... we've all seen what happens then.
Well I think I've given you enough to chew on for a week or so. Discuss!!!
Yours in Darkness (or Maybe Light).
Hi! I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. These past couple of weeks have been extremely busy for me.
